Grief Garden
Tattoo Project

Grief Garden Tattoo Project is an initiative to recognize grief and create a space to talk about it. Participants receive a small “Grief Garden” tattoo while we have a conversation about who it symbolizes. The imagery in these tattoos was created with the intention of expressing how the loss of a loved one alters our emotional landscapes, creating a human shaped landmark we must learn to navigate around. These craters, islands, lakes, and constellations represent how grief will always be a part of our lives, but we can learn to live with it. This is an ongoing project with the goal to hear participants' stories, validate their experiences, and give them a permanent way to carry the memory of their loved one(s) on their body. I hope that receiving this tattoo is a healing experience that can be used as a way to start a conversation about the person or people they have lost for the rest of their life.
